The Handcarved Salad Bowl is crafted in Bethlehem, Palestine by expert carvers, using olive-tree prunings from the ancient groves around Jerusalem. Perfect for serving fattoush or tabbouleh, with a generous 29cm diameter and a beautiful lacquered finish.

Olive wood is prized by woodworkers for its density, hardness, and exquisite natural grain. Palestine has some of the world's oldest olive trees, with a variety known as Rumi believed to date from Roman times. Prunings from these ancient trees tend to be more twisted and gnarled than those of younger trees, lending a timeless, artisanal quality to our carvings.

Stunning.

A requested birthday present from my husband, I feel honoured to have such a piece - the wood is so beautiful. I love olive trees and I am deeply saddened by the loss of so many ancient ones in Palestine. Salads, with homegrown ingredients, are a part of our evening meal, and the use of this bowl has become a moment of prayer.
